The truth about bottles after a year old 🍼 Whe The truth about bottles after a year old 🍼
When the time comes, and it definitely will — weaning your baby off the bottle can be a tricky process. It becomes their comfort and something they expect when going to sleep.
But did you know that giving them a bottle at night after 13 months can actually affect their sleep? 🤔
While most health organizations recommend to stop bottles after 12 months — I think 13 months is fair, giving your toddler some time to adjust to their new routine.
By the time they’re 12 months old, they’re getting most of their nutrition from the solid foods they’ve been consuming since 6 months.
So  how exactly does their bottle affect their sleep? 🤷‍♀️
1️⃣ They may eat less of their dinner knowing they have bottle coming, especially if their bedtime closely follows dinner time.
2️⃣ The sugar in milk can cause a crash — which is the exact opposite of what we want at bedtime.
3️⃣ If they expect a bottle first thing in the morning, this can trigger some issues through the night as well — try to offer milk in a cup with their breakfast rather than as soon as they wake up!
With Ben, the wean was gradual as I wasn’t super strict on removing the bottle. With Bella, she was pretty much ready to make the switch so we did the transition cold turkey.
At the end of the day, always remember that doing what’s best for you and your little one is the right decision! If your toddler is sleeping just find through the night with a bedtime bottle, don’t worry about switching things up as quickly mama! Use your intuition. ☺️
Don’t forget to save this post for later and let me know in the comments when you weaned your baby & if this worked for you and your little one better.

Here is how I got my 1 1/2 year old potty trained Here is how I got my 1 1/2 year old potty trained and diaper free 👇
I want to preface this by saying that every baby’s developmental timeline is different!
Bella was independent and potty trained super early but on the other hand she was a later walker — so try not to stress mama, they’ll get there on their own time.
However, here are some things you can do to help push them along:
🚽 Have multiple potties around the house! When they have to go, they have to go. Having a potty accessible is key 🔑
👶🏼 Go diaper free as much as possible. This will get messy so be prepared!
📚 Incorporate potty training books into their reading times - especially with their favorite characters.
💩 Let them watch you do your business on the toilet and do this often! Monkey see-monkey do, they’ll want to mimic what you’re doing faster.
✅ Get them on the potty as much as possible so that it becomes a familiar place to them & they start to feel more comfortable using it
🙅‍♀️ When they get frustrated, take them off the potty. We want to avoid creating a negative connection around the potty — give them a break when they let you know they need one.
🎉 We want to make sure that when they successfully use the potty they know that what they’ve accomplished is HUGE — potty party 🎉
💃🏽 Sing, dance, applaud and REWARD them with their favourite treat! They’ve just hit a huge milestone and it should be celebrated 💃🏽

You go to bed late, you sleep in late. Right? Isn’t that how it’s supposed to go?
Ideally, yes. But not for our little ones! They aren’t wired that way and their circadian rhythm is to thank for that. 🤷‍♀️
When they’re a newborn, we should intentionally aim to have them in bed between 8-11pm. At this age, the later the better because this means their longest stretch of sleep is at the same time that you’re asleep!😴
As your baby gets older, their circadian rhythm becomes more mature and they will get their best sleep between 6-8pm to 6-8am. Anything outside of this will be less restorative.  This bedtime should start around 4 months.
❗️Overtired babies produce higher levels of cortisol and adrenaline which in turn suppresses their much needed sleep hormone — melatonin!
This is why late nights do not = late mornings. 🙅‍♀️With less melatonin production, your little one will have a harder time staying asleep through the night thus leading to an earlier wake up.
✅Try out an earlier bedtime for a few nights — based on their schedule and age appropriate wake window and see how much of a difference an earlier bedtime can make!

You’re ready to stop contact naps but don’t kn You’re ready to stop contact naps but don’t know where to start? I’ve got you mama🙌
First, you must have a plan! Give yourself a few days to get prepared. Choose a day on the calendar and stick to it!
Did you know that your baby’s first nap of the day is essentially an extension of their night time sleep? This is why the first nap of the day is usually the easiest for them to fall asleep AND their longest nap of the day.
You only really have to focus on one nap a day & because their first is the easiest, let’s try with this one!
Put them in their crib or bassinet and spend some time helping them relax and fall asleep.
Rub and pat their back, shush them — whatever helps them fall asleep. Whatever you do, leave them in their sleep space!
As a newborn, their wake windows are very short so this shouldn’t take too much time. Do this for about 30 minutes. If they’re still awake, try offering a feed.
A second attempt at soothing them to sleep may be necessary but stop here — you still have to go on with your day, mama!
Try this technique for a week and let me know how it goes!🤗
❗️The key here is to stay CONSISTENT
